# macOS: System Extension Blocked — A program tried to load new system extension(s) / System software was blocked from loading

**Code:** `System software from "x" was blocked from loading` · **Category:** macOS · **Seen on:** macOS

macOS blocked a kernel/system extension (VPN, virtualization, drivers) until you approve it.

## Meaning

Open System Settings → Privacy & Security and click Allow next to the blocked developer (Intel; on Apple Silicon you may first need Reduced Security in recovery mode for kernel extensions). Restart afterwards. MDM-managed Macs need the extension allowed by profile.

## Common causes

- Third-party system/network extension installed
- First launch of VPN/virtualization tool
- Apple Silicon with Full Security blocking kexts
- MDM policy denies
- Approval dialog dismissed

## Quick fix

1. Privacy & Security → Allow → restart
2. Apple Silicon legacy kext: Recovery → Startup Security Utility → Reduced Security
3. Ask IT to deploy an approval profile (MDM)

## Detailed fix by platform

### macOS

1. `systemextensionsctl list` and `kextstat | grep -v apple`

## How to diagnose

1. **Extension** — Listed?
2. **Approval** — Allowed?
3. **MDM** — Managed?
