# MongoParseError: option usenewurlparser is not supported

**Code:** `MongoParseError: options usenewurlparser / useunifiedtopology not supported` · **Category:** MongoDB · **Seen on:** MongoDB, Node.js

Old connection options removed in Mongoose 6 / driver 4 are still passed to `mongoose.connect`.

## Meaning

`useNewUrlParser`, `useUnifiedTopology`, `useCreateIndex`, `useFindAndModify` no longer exist. Remove them from `connect(uri, options)`; they're default behaviour. The same error appears with other unknown options after upgrading drivers.

## Common causes

- Code copied from old tutorials
- Upgrade to Mongoose 6+/driver 4+
- Unsupported options (useCreateIndex, useFindAndModify)
- Options passed in the URI
- Typos in option names

## Quick fix

1. Remove `useNewUrlParser`/`useUnifiedTopology`/`useCreateIndex`/`useFindAndModify`
2. Pass only supported options (see driver docs)
3. Check `npm ls mongoose mongodb`

## Detailed fix by platform

### Node.js

1. `await mongoose.connect(process.env.MONGODB_URI);` with no deprecated options

## How to diagnose

1. **Options** — Deprecated ones?
2. **Version** — Mongoose 6+?
3. **URI** — Unknown parameters?
