Xcode: Multiple commands produce '…/Info.plist' (or another file)
Two build steps write the same output file — usually Info.plist or an asset added to “Copy Bundle Resources”, or duplicate files across targets/pods.
Seen on:
iOS
Meaning
The new build system refuses ambiguous outputs. The message lists both producing commands, which points at the duplicate.
Common causes
- Info.plist listed in Copy Bundle Resources
- Two files with the same name (e.g. two README.md or LICENSE in resources)
- Pods and the app both bundling the same resource
- Duplicate target membership
⚡ Quick fix
- Remove Info.plist from Build Phases → Copy Bundle Resources
- Remove or rename duplicate resource files
- Check target membership of the named files
Detailed fix by platform
iOS
- Open Build Phases → Copy Bundle Resources, search for the file name from the error and remove the duplicate entry. For pods,
pod deintegrate && pod installcan clear stale script outputs.
How to diagnose
- File — Which output path is named?
- Producers — Which two commands produce it?
- Resources — Duplicates in Copy Bundle Resources?
