API Error: limit must be less than or equal to 100 (page size exceeds maximum)
You asked for more items per page than the endpoint allows.
Seen on:
REST API
Meaning
List endpoints cap page size (limit, per_page, pageSize, maxResults) — commonly 100, sometimes 50 or 1000. Some APIs silently clamp the value; stricter ones reject it with 400 and a message like “limit must be less than or equal to 100”.
To fetch everything, page through results instead of raising the limit.
Common causes
- Requested page size above the documented maximum
- Using a page size valid in another API version
- limit/offset confused (offset sent as limit)
⚡ Quick fix
- Use the documented maximum or less
- Loop with cursor/page parameters to get all records
- Check parameter names (limit vs per_page)
Detailed fix by platform
REST API
curl 'https://api.example.com/v1/orders?limit=100&starting_after=ord_123'
How to diagnose
- Limit — Value sent vs documented max
- Parameter — Correct name for this API?
