AbortError: The user aborted a request. / signal is aborted without reason
A fetch was cancelled through an AbortController (or the browser cancelled it).
Seen on:
JavaScript
Meaning
Intentional cancellations (component unmount, new search request, timeouts via AbortSignal.timeout) raise AbortError; they usually shouldn’t be reported as failures.
Common causes
- Component unmounted and aborted its fetch
- Newer request superseding an older one
- AbortSignal.timeout firing
- React StrictMode double-invoking effects in development
⚡ Quick fix
- Ignore AbortError in catch blocks
- Distinguish TimeoutError from AbortError
- Make sure you don’t abort requests you still need
Detailed fix by platform
JavaScript
catch (e) { if (e.name === 'AbortError') return; throw e; }
How to diagnose
- Trigger — Who called abort()?
- Intent — Expected cancellation?
