Meaning
sql_safe_updates protects against accidental full-table changes. It’s on by default in Workbench.
Common causes
- UPDATE/DELETE without WHERE
- WHERE on a non-indexed column

- Temporarily SET SQL_SAFE_UPDATES = 0 for intentional bulk changes
- Turn it off in Workbench preferences
