django.template.exceptions.TemplateDoesNotExist: app/page.html
Django searched all template directories and couldn’t find that template.
Seen on:
Python
Meaning
The debug page lists every path the loaders tried. Usually the app isn’t in INSTALLED_APPS, the folder layout misses the app-name subfolder, or TEMPLATES['DIRS'] is wrong.
Common causes
- App not in INSTALLED_APPS
- Template not in app/templates/app/
- TEMPLATES DIRS missing BASE_DIR / "templates"
- Typo/case in the template name
⚡ Quick fix
- Check the “Template-loader postmortem” paths
- Use app/templates/<app>/<name>.html
- Add the project templates folder to DIRS
Detailed fix by platform
Python
TEMPLATES[0]["DIRS"] = [BASE_DIR / "templates"]
How to diagnose
- Paths — Which paths were searched?
- Name — Exact template name
