Meaning
0x80070005 wraps the Win32 error 5, ERROR_ACCESS_DENIED. The operation needed rights the current user/service doesn’t have, the file/registry key is locked by another process, or security software blocked it.
Common causes
- Not running as administrator (UAC)
- Folder/registry permissions changed or inherited incorrectly
- Antivirus / Controlled Folder Access blocking the write
- Windows Update: corrupted SoftwareDistribution or permissions on system folders
- Scheduled task / service running as an account without rights
- File in use by another process
