INSTALL_FAILED_USER_RESTRICTED: Install canceled by user (Xiaomi/MIUI, Oppo, Vivo)
The phone’s manufacturer layer blocked installs over USB — Xiaomi/MIUI, Oppo/ColorOS and Vivo require extra developer settings.
Seen on:
Android
Meaning
Besides USB debugging, MIUI needs “Install via USB” (and sometimes “USB debugging (Security settings)”) which may require a Mi account and SIM. Other OEMs show a confirmation dialog on the phone that times out.
Common causes
- “Install via USB” disabled (MIUI)
- On-device install prompt not confirmed
- Work profile/MDM restrictions
⚡ Quick fix
- Enable Developer options → Install via USB and USB debugging (Security settings)
- Watch the phone and accept the install prompt
- Remove MDM restrictions for test devices
Detailed fix by platform
ADB
adb install -r app-debug.apk # then confirm on the phone screen
How to diagnose
- OEM — Xiaomi/Oppo/Vivo?
