SFC unable to fix 🪟 Windows

Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them

SFC detected damaged system files but couldn’t restore them because its own source (the component store) is damaged too.

Meaning

Run DISM /RestoreHealth first to repair the component store, then SFC again. CBS.log lists which files failed.

Common causes

  • Component store (WinSxS) corrupted
  • Disk errors
  • Third-party system modifications/themes

  1. DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
  2. Run sfc /scannow again
  3. If DISM fails, repair-install Windows from an ISO (keeps files/apps)
