Play Console: Version code 1 has already been used. Try another version code
Every upload to a Play app needs a higher versionCode than any previous upload (in any track).
Seen on:
Android
Meaning
versionCode is an integer that must increase; versionName is just the label. CI builds should auto-increment it (build number, timestamp).
Common causes
- versionCode not increased
- Uploaded the same build again
- Another track already has that code
⚡ Quick fix
- Increase versionCode
- Generate it from CI build numbers
- Check the highest code in App bundle explorer
Detailed fix by platform
Gradle
- kotlin
android { defaultConfig { versionCode = (System.getenv("BUILD_NUMBER") ?: "1").toInt() versionName = "1.4.0" } }
How to diagnose
- Codes — Highest uploaded vs this one
- CI — Auto-incremented?
