Minimum supported Gradle version 🤖 Android

Minimum supported Gradle version is 8.7. Current version is 8.2

The Android Gradle Plugin (AGP) version in your build needs a newer Gradle wrapper version.

Seen on: Android

Meaning

Each AGP release requires a minimum Gradle version. Upgrading AGP (or a library/Flutter/RN template that does) without updating gradle-wrapper.properties triggers this.

Common causes

  • AGP upgraded but Gradle wrapper not
  • Project copied from a template with mismatched versions

⚡ Quick fix

  1. Update distributionUrl in gradle/wrapper/gradle-wrapper.properties
  2. Use the AGP Upgrade Assistant in Android Studio
  3. Keep AGP/Gradle/JDK versions in the compatibility table

Detailed fix by platform

Shell

  1. kotlin
    ./gradlew wrapper --gradle-version 8.7
    # gradle/wrapper/gradle-wrapper.properties
    distributionUrl=https\://services.gradle.org/distributions/gradle-8.7-bin.zip

How to diagnose

  1. Versions — AGP in build.gradle(.kts)/libs.versions.toml vs wrapper
  2. JDK — AGP 8.x needs JDK 17
