LocationNotAvailableForResourceType / InvalidResourceLocation
The resource type isn’t offered in that region, or the resource already exists in a different region than the template says.
Seen on:
Azure
Meaning
Not every service is in every region. InvalidResourceLocation appears when a resource with the same name already exists in another location — Azure won’t move it.
Common causes
- Service not available in the chosen region
- Existing resource with same name in another region
- Typo in location name
⚡ Quick fix
- Check available locations for the resource type
- Use the region where the existing resource lives
- Use az account list-locations names (westeurope, not "West Europe" in some tools)
Detailed fix by platform
Azure CLI
az provider show -n Microsoft.Web --query "resourceTypes[?resourceType=='sites'].locations" -o tsv
How to diagnose
- Region — Supported for the type?
- Existing — Same name in another region?
