ERR_CONNECTION_RESET 🧭 Browser

ERR_CONNECTION_RESET: This site can’t be reached — The connection was reset

The connection to the website was cut off mid-way — by the server, a firewall/antivirus, a VPN/proxy, or network equipment.

Seen on: Chrome

Meaning

Visitors see this when something between the browser and the server drops the TCP connection. If it happens only on one network or device, look locally (antivirus HTTPS scanning, VPN, ISP). If it happens everywhere for one site, the server or its firewall is resetting connections.

Common causes

  • Antivirus/firewall inspecting HTTPS
  • VPN, proxy or ISP filtering
  • Server/WAF resetting connections (rate limits, TLS issues)
  • Corrupted network settings

⚡ Quick fix

  1. Try another network or disable VPN/antivirus web shield temporarily
  2. Reset network settings (Windows: netsh winsock reset)
  3. Site owners: check server/WAF logs for resets

Detailed fix by platform

Windows

  1. powershell
    netsh winsock reset
    netsh int ip reset
    ipconfig /flushdns

How to diagnose

  1. Scope — One site or all sites? One device or all?
  2. Network — Works on mobile data?
