Windows Update error 0x8024402C (cannot connect to update server)
Windows Update can’t reach Microsoft’s servers — a proxy, DNS, firewall or WSUS setting is blocking the connection.

Meaning
0x8024402C maps to WU_E_PT_WINHTTP_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED: the update server name couldn’t be resolved or reached. Leftover proxy settings, a WSUS server configured by policy that no longer exists, or DNS filtering are typical.
Common causes
- WinHTTP proxy set to an unreachable proxy
- Group policy points to an old WSUS server
- DNS/firewall blocking Microsoft update domains
- VPN/security software intercepting traffic
