Windows Update error 0x80070422 (service is disabled)
Windows Update (or the Microsoft Store/Defender) can’t run because a required service — usually Windows Update (wuauserv) — is disabled or stopped.

Meaning
0x80070422 means “the service cannot be started because it is disabled”. Debloat scripts, “privacy” tools, group policy or a third-party updater often disable wuauserv, BITS or Delivery Optimization.

- Windows Update service set to Disabled
- BITS or Delivery Optimization disabled
- Debloater/privacy tool or group policy changed services
- Network List Service stopped (affects Store)
