Cloudflare Error 1034: Edge IP Restricted
The DNS record points to a Cloudflare IP not assigned to your zone — typically an A record pointing to an old Cloudflare IP or another account’s address.
Seen on:
Cloudflare
Meaning
Cloudflare restricts which edge IPs serve which zones. Hard-coded Cloudflare IPs (in DNS at another provider or hosts files) stop working when assignments change.
Common causes
- Hard-coded Cloudflare IP in DNS at another provider
- Hosts file with a Cloudflare IP
- Partial (CNAME) setup pointing at wrong IPs
⚡ Quick fix
- Use the hostnames/CNAMEs Cloudflare provides instead of IPs
- Remove hosts file entries
- Update DNS at the external provider
Detailed fix by platform
Shell
- bash
dig +short example.com grep example.com /etc/hosts
How to diagnose
- DNS — Where is the IP coming from?
- Setup — Full or partial (CNAME) setup?
